Experience After graduating from Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas, I obtained psychiatric training at Timberlawn Psychiatric Hospital then psychoanalytic training at the Dallas Psychoanalytic Institute. I have practiced outpatient psychiatry for over 25 years in addition to teaching and supervising psychiatric residents as Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Southwestern Medical School. Currently, I am affiliated with the Department of Psychiatry at Rush Medical School and enjoy my involvement in local psychiatric and psychoanalytic organizations.
Concentrations Potential patients present with problems of various types: • anxiety • depression • psychosis • mania • obsessions • eating disorders • dysfunctional relationships I am interested in addressing the presenting issues, working to find ways to relieve the patients and/ or their families. In addition, many instances exist in which I am able to find a point of view from which symptoms can be seen as a manifestation of a larger problem in the person's or system's developmental process. When I am able to see this I then try to help the patient or family to see it as well. We can then look for ways to move the invidividual, couple or family onto a more optimal developmental trajectory.
Approach I offer outpatient evaluations and treatments for a full range of psychiatric syndromes. My psychoanalytic training and experience provides a broad perspective on human development and the problems that can emerge from that process. The treatment modalities I offer include: • psychoanalytic psychotherapy • psychoanalysis • couples therapy • family therapy • medication consultation • management & psychotherapy supervision
